Heresy Era Death Guard - Spartan Assault Tank

A welcome reinforcement for the Death guard, a Spartan! Now this wasn't originally in my list, but after falling in love with the Deathshroud, I had to have an assault vehicle for them to ride it!

Now, I will be nicknaming this tank 'The Bastard' on account of how much of a bastard it was to put together!! Now, I've heard a lot of people moaning about the tracks on this thing, and it was no exaggeration! What a pain. However, since its such a nice tank, I'd say it was worth the effort.

Some details of the weathering:

Went with some heat distortion on the Lascannons:

Finally, I magnetised the Lascannons for easier transport. Plus the connection was a little loose anyway.

I really enjoyed painting this guy - the idea of a second one has crossed my mind more than once!

So with the Death Guard fast approaching completion (the rest of the army has now arrived from Forgeworld) most of my attention is on my new Battlefleet Gothic fleet. more on that soon!

Death Guard in Spaceeeeeee!

Something a bit different today! Me and my buddies were talking 30K campaigns the other day (which we're hoping to run soon) when the conversation strayed to Battlefleet Gothic. We talked about how awesome it would be to resolve boarding actions with a Zone Mortalis game (which we're also looking to make a board for) The excitement quickly escalated and before you knew it, we were planing our fleets!

Now i've never played before, but i'm making my way through the rules. I also had a vague memory of some ships in my mountain of bits boxes. After a 30 minute rummage i came across these bad boys! I set about painting them up straight away.

Now i know these are 'Imperial' ships and not strictly speaking Death Guard, but i wanted them to look like they belonged to them, or were somehow associated. So the paint scheme is the same as my 30K army.

Now i don''t have much of an idea what these ships are (any help would be appreciated) but i think this one is a Destroyer/Escort:

I think that this one is a Cruiser:

I do know that THIS one is a Retribution Class Battleship! She's a beauty!

Once we all have our fleets assembled, we'll be using them in our 30K campaigns!

Heresy Era Death Guard - Volkite Caliver Support Squad

As my painting projects are beginning to pile up, i got this Support Squad done for the Death guard, armed with some nasty Volkite!

I haven't used them in a game yet, but i'm assured that they're highly effective!

Having loved my Deathshroud so much i went and ordered some more...whoops! They're cleaned and ready for assembly. There m-i-g-h-t be some well known Death Guard characters on the way in the post as well...

Vostroyan Firstborn - Anti-Air

After the release of the new Imperial Guard Codex (AKA: Astra Millta-whatsit) some valuable anti air support was finally made available. And with my FLGS having a sale, i grabbed 2 Hydras for £22 each! The first of which goes to my Vostroyan Firstborn.

Pretty easy assembly, nice kit to put together. Only problem is that it goes with a generic Guard gunner and spotter. That just wont do for the Firstborn.

I've got a tonne of spare Vosties lying around, so i picked this guy as my gunner. He was originally a loader for a Mortar team. I hacked off the mortar shell and his arms (these were metal minis remember!) and made a start on the re sculpt. No im no sculptor, so im doing this is small stages. All i really need to do is rebuild the front body armour. I'll be using the Cadian arms that come with the Hydra.

This guy has the task of being the loader/spotter. He's holding what could pass as Hydra ammo, so he'll stay just as he is!

I think this will look great when its done! More on this soon.

A Bit More Heresy Death Guard...

Just a quick post today. Another 5 man squad is painted up which will quickly become another 10 man squad when my Forgeworld order arrives.

The Volkite Support Squad is well under way.

Now this Storm Eagle has been in pieces on my shelf for about 6 months! I bought this off a guy in my FLWG for £60 - it was in a hell of a state, being the victim of poor assembly. I pulled it a apart, tidied it up, and put the poor guy back together again.

I was just going to put it on eBay but after all the work it took to restore it, i decided to add it to the Death Guard! Why not.

So the final bits of the Death guard army are on their way from Forgeworld. This included's the last 5 man Tactical Squad, Calas Typhon, Moritarion, a Spartan, and some more Death Shroud and Grave Wardens for good measure!

After that, the blessed Omnissah gets some attention...

Deathshroud Terminators Complete

The Deathshroud Terminators are now complete, and now i love them even more! So much i'll be ordering another 5 at the end of the month. They're definitely the most iconic unit that the Death Guard have (aside from Moritarion himself of course)

The bases really came out nice on these guys - gives them a little extra something.

Some detailing on the back of the Terminators.

Arm mounted Chem Flamers.

As with the other Death Guard the shoulder pads were airbrushed with 2 layers of green.

Really pleased with this unit. I've moved onto the other 2 units that are on the table, and they're well on their way to completion. Theres another 40K tournament coming up, and im not sure whether to take these guys  or not. Its in August so im going to get as much done as i can and then decide. Landed second place in the last one, so im hoping for a similar success!

On The Table - Heresy Death Guard

So there's been a few new developments on the Heresy Death Guard front. The army is so close to completion, and these units bring it a big step forward.

First up - Deathshroud! I just love everything about these models, they just scream 'bad-ass'! I'd love to have a few more squads of them - maybe later... This unit is nearly done, with just some weathering and washes to go.

As i was rummaging through my hobby storage i found a couple of boxes of those old Urban Basing kits from a few years ago. They were perfect for jazzing up their bases.

I also got started on the penultimate squad of Legionaries. Only 5 more to go after this and that's 40 done and ready!

Lastly there's a Support Squad with Volkite Calivers. Will be parking these lads in some cover to wreak havoc on enemy infantry.

The only units i need after this are Calas Typhon and a Spartan. Save the best till last eh?
