Blessings of the Omnissiah: Questoris Knight Lancer Complete!

As soon as my new airbrush arrived (a swanky Hardner & Steenbeck Infinity) i got straight to work on the Lancer again. Once i got into full flow it didn't take long to get him finished. He's  actually been done for a week or two now, but I've only just got around to photographing him!

This purchase was based on a love for the model rather than a practical gaming application! I know it will be useful, and at the end of the day its still a Knight, but i always found the Lancer rules to be a bit...meh. To me its just a beautiful model, but if he ends up on the battlefield (which he inevitably will at some point) then i think I'll primarily use him for taking on other Knight, Super heavies, and armour.

Anyhoo, here he is!

The carapace trim got the bronze treatment like the Acheron.

I really like the shoulder plates on the Lancer. again the white sections are just waiting for some Mechanicum transfers to be released!

The Gauntlet Shield. I based the OSL (or poor excuse for it!) on the power sources found on the Thallax and Castellax in the rest of the army. The shield was quite warped when i got it but i managed to straighten it out. The sharp eyed amongst you will notice that i shaped the shield in a more conventional manner, rather than the inverted shield shape it was meant to be - just preferred it that way.

The iconic Lance! To big for one photo annoyingly...

The moving parts!

Base is the Mechanicum standard.

The shins got a little extra attention. again these patterns will be supplemented with transfers once they're finally released.

Lastly i took this photo  to show the stride of the Lancer. I always try and go for dynamic poses for my large walkers, so i wanted this model to look like he was about to run another Knight through with his Lance!

Like the other Knight, he got the magnetic treatment. For me they'd just be such a pain to transport otherwise!

I hope you enjoed the Lancer as much as i did! As i mentiioned a few posts ago, i ordered 2 Knight Styrix as welll, one of which is already well underway! more on that soon.

Maelstrom Objective Markers

So i thought it was high time i made myself some objectives. I was fed up of using colured stones and marking them with numbered dice!!

During a rummage around a long abandoned hobby shelf, i found 3 (what i assumed to be) old objective markers. I also found some VERY old Vostroyan casulty models. A little tarting up, and they would be perfect Maelstrom markers!

Getting the numbers onto the casulty models looked like it was going to be tricky, so a made some small numbered 'signs' for the casulty markers! Kinda reminds me of CSI or something!

The other 3 markers were easier to number, just a quick numbered tranfer and they were done.

This one didn't  get a numbered transfer. as 'V' is the roman numeral for 5, this Vostroyan V would serve nicely as a number 5.

Time to get them into a game!

Blessings of the Omnissiah: Scyllax Guardian Automata Complete

This turned out to be a really interesting looking unit, which will go up to 8 models when i get the other squad done. They're rules gear them up as a hunter-killer unit so i guess they'll fall naturally into that roll in my games. I really only bought them because they looked cool!!

The nice bronze carapace ties them in nicely with the rest of the army.

More soon!

Vostroyan Hydra Complete

This model was a bit of a labour of love, mainly due to getting the crew right. Its been a long journey for this model! It just didn't feel Vostroyan enough for me with the crew from the original set, so i was determined to get the Vostroyan models right. Truth be told it was the gunner that gave me the most hassle, but it was worth it!

The oh-so-important crew!

The troublesome gunner! He was a plasma gunner before he was re-deployed to the Hydra! This meant a lot of chopping, hacking, filing an filling to get it right and make it fit.

This guy was easy, i just stuck him on the deck!!

Of course, everything is magnetised. He's had a few run out's and I'm glad i did go with the magnets, otherwise it'll be a pain to transport!

The Sands of Istvaan 5 (4)

Progress continues to be a bit slow on this project (and the Star Scrapper project!) but I'm nearly there with this one.

I put the finishing touches on the bunkers this week. They look a but more 'ravaged' now! Once the paint and washes dry ill get them varnished and that should be it.

There will be 3 more additions; a wrecked Rhino, Leman Russ, and Predator. I''ve made a start on the Predator. believe it or not, a mate of mine really struggled with this kit. The parts were badly warped but instead of calling up Forgeworld and asking for more parts, he tried to force it together. The results were....interesting! He asked me to try and save it, but sadly the damage was to bad.

So he said i could use it for the Istvaan terrain set! Happy days! Here's where i am with it at the moment.

Once the Rhino and Leman Russ are all wrecked up, the set will be complete!

Heresy Era Death Guard: FellBlade!

This poor guy has been staring me in the face for ages as he gathered dust on my 'To Do' shelf. I thought it was high  time to get him finished off!

This models journey has been.....traumatic. The build was a pain, so much so i wouldn't touch it for months. I had to be in a highly motivated mood to do any work on it. Overall this left me with quite a negative feel for the model...shame really, because now its don't i love it! I definitely won't be going in for another any time soon though!

The engines received the rust treatment.

The size of the main gun has to be seen to be believed! Its a monster!

The Lascannons got the heat distortion treatment.

Plenty of weathering on the tracks. I wrangled with quite a few different marking ideas for the FellBlade, but I'm happy with what i settled on. It needed a good splash of green to break up the bone shades.

The Death guard brass etch added a nice bit of detail to the tank.

finally here are some WIP shots i took along the way!

I'm keen to get this model on the table and blasting Loyalists soon!

Blessings of the Omnissiah: Avenger Strike Fighter Complete!

The first fighter for my Mechanicum air support is now, finally, complete! Again, i seem to have to many projects on the go which is making everything take that much longer. It was wother the wait though.

The converted cockpit really makes the fighter pop now its painted. I will be converting the other two in the same manner.

The Avenger is armed with an Avenger Bolt Cannon and a Twin linked Lascannon as standard. There are a few weapons options for the remaining hard points; i went with Autocannons. The primary role of the Avenger is to deal with airborne threats, so the higher the strength the better!

As with the rest of the Mechanicum force i was reluctant to weather them to heavily. All the grey though was a bit to much, so a few black streaks helped break it up a bit.

Engine details.

Same Mechanicum base to match the rest of the force.

The underside of the Avenger.

As there were quite a few options for the hard points, so i magnetised the Autocannons.

So you may have noticed that the pictures are a bit different this post. I recently invested in a new light box and lighting kit! Got this one off eBay for a very reasonable price, and I'm loving it so far! I really like the way the pictures are coming out, so i think this'll be the standard from now on.
