More Warriors and painted Doom of Malan'Tai

One morning of frantic painting managed to produce 3 more painted Warriors and the much anticipated Doom of Malan'Tai! Again, the 'less is more' approach seems to have paid off, not just in regard to painting speed but also in the quality of the finished result.

Having got these guys painted, my army now stands at 1595pts. Just enough for a sensible game on the tabletop.

Having played 2 games with my exsisting force, i have decided to scale down the stupidly large amount of Termagants (30) and Homogaunts (50) and opt for some more effective units. Although intimidating, these large units barely managed to survive a round of combat before being wipped out (mostly due to being Fearless). I can console myself to a degree, as they were up against the axe-weilding mainiacs that are the World Eaters! However, not even they could withstand and assault from a unit if infiltrating 'Stealers led by a Broodlord! This unit definately out-performed the rest of the army, which has led to afore mentioned Gaunt cutbacks! The new list will include a mere 20 of each Gaunt variant, with 2 units of Stealers - one with 7 plus a Broodlord, and one with 6 plus a Broodlord. More on their performance in the near future.

Another unit thats was VERY fun to play with was the Doom! Putting it in a Mycetic Spore and dropping it in the moddile of the enemy infantry and sucking out their souls is definately worth the 130pts! The 3+ invunerable save got it out of a few jams in the process, so they'll definately be a place for it in this army!

That being said, the Elysians are also soon to land! My copy of the new Imperial Armour 8 is on order, and as soon as it lands, lists will be made and miniatures bought (once i've mugged enough grannes to pay for them!) Watch the skies.....

Hive Tyrant, Doom of Malan'Tai, and 'Stealers!

Another long stretch of post-less time, but i've managed to get a bit done!

With the Hive Tyrant now painted i have an essential HQ choice for my force. I didnt really attack the Tyrant with a set plan, i just started an let it take shape. The end result was a very simple scheme that fitted in with the rest of the army. I did wonder wether if it was TOO simple, but i think im happy with it. I have to say, its a pretty striking model!

I also managed to complete a brood of Genestealers and a Broodlead to lead them. Again, im happy with the simple scheme, and its my favorite unit so far. The Broodlord has to be one of my favorite models, and the colour scheme fits it well. The elevated base also gives it a much more striking pose i feel.

Finally i have done a Doom of Malan'Tai conversion. Well, i basically tweaked a Zonethrope so im not sure if it really qualifies as a conversion!! The carapace on the head you'll recognise from the Mawloc. This was the most time consuming part of the process, as the origional head had to be completely filed down smooth in order for the new carapace to fit!! The tail of the Zonethrope was reversed to face forwards; a process which damaged the tail quite badly! Nothing a bit of green stuff coudnt fix though!!

With 3 warriors, 12 Homagaunts, and the Doom of Malan'Tai, i'll have quite a bit of painting to get on with! Hopefully more pics soon dedicated followers!!

Elysian Drop Troops

With the impending release of Imperial Armour Volume 8, which should contain a new army list for Elysians, i've decided to start collecting! The idea of a completly airbourne force of veterans in Vendetta Gunships supported by Vultures was to tempting to pass up!

Watch this space, more Guard, more Glory!!

Tyranids! Well, the Guard need someone to fight right....?

With my Vostroyans pretty much done, and my Krieg army growing out of control, i decided to restart on my 'Nids!

As with most people i suspect, i was swept along with 'Nid mania when the new codex was released, so rushed out and bought loads of models. These inevitably ended up collecting dust on the shelf! However, after taking inspiration from a White Dwarf Nid colour scheme, the hoard began to grow again!

The scheme was an easy one. The flesh is a 1:1 mix of Shadow grey and Graveyard earth, with a black carapace. The flesh was drybrushed with Astronomican Grey. The markings on the back were created with Tau Sept Ocre and then a layer of Bleached Bone. The soft tissue sections are Thraka Green and weapons are Charadon Granite with a Badab Black wash. There is next to no shading or washes on these models and i still think they came out great! Easy and straight forward, just what a hoard army needs to be!

Below you can see 16 Termagants undercoated in my Nid Flesh ready to be painted. Theres also a nearly complete Trygon Prime, along with some finished Warriors, a Carnafex, Termagants and Homagaunts. Next purchase will be a Winged Hive Tyrant which i have big plans for, so watch this space!!

Finished Vendetta Gunship

This Valkerie has been sitting on my shelf undercoated since the day they were first released! Now I finally have a use for it, and I think i've done it justice!

I went for an Imperial Navy colour scheme rather than a Vostroyan scheme. I reasoned that the regiment would probably be supported by Navy flyers rather than having their own! Plus it give the Vendetta a bit of interchangabillity, just in case i get the urge to collect ANOTHER Guard regiment!

I'm just a little unhappy with some bits of this model. I stupidly assembled the tail end wonky, so it looks lop-sidded from head on. Also i cracked the windshield while gluing it down, but this could be blagged as "battle damage"!

This Vendetta will carry one Veteran squad with 3 melta guns. With the Vendetta itself armed with 3 twin linked las cannons, tanks better beware!

Finished Medusa and Chimeras

Got the Medusa done now. Quite pleased with how it turned out - went with a "less is more" approach with it. However, im still not entirely happy with it. Think i just dont like the tank because of all the trouble i had putting it together!! Lets just hope it performs on the table now!

I also got my final Chimera done. Now have 3, each of which will have a Veterans squad in it.

6 more Vostroyans, 2 Advisors, and a Vendetta Gunship and the armys done!
