Vendetta Flying Base

Squad 3 is pretty much done (after a frustrating 3 weeks! Argh!) So now I'm preparing to make a start on the bargain Vendetta that i got off eBay! Need some time off troops for a bit!

In preparation for an early start to painting tomorrow, i got the flying base done (mostly) Used the same method as the last base and went with the Milliput, which gave me that extra depth and detail. With this base i constructed a small campsite, likely belonging to some deserter from the local PDF (clearly not Elysian, ahem!) We've got a small, tatty scrap of camo netting which was made from medical gauze soaked in watered down PVA. Small strips of paper were then added, again soaked in watery PVA. I roughed up a scrap of wooden dowel to prop the thing up and added a small fire pit as well! Very homely! Various supplies are also littered around; fuel cans, spade, bedroll, you know the usual!

I really like it, but I'm aware that its probably grossly OTT for a flying base! Never mind. I'll get this based with sand tomoz and have it painted, provided i get the Vendetta done! Busy, busy busy!

Imperial Armour!!

Work on the Quatermaster has been sluggish at best. I'm somewhat distracted by an Elysian squad and their Vendetta gunship!

However, i was trawling through eBay the other night and managed to bag 3 Leman Russ for £48 quid, with 2 Forgeworld turrets, all in great condition! Thank you Lady eBay! My thoughts immediately turned towards my Armoured Regiment Army list that I'm doing for my Krieg. All i needed was 3 more Russ and 4 Chimeras and its done! That's the Russ' out of the way, now just the Chimeras!

This lot also came with some of the old Armourcast muzzle flashes! I don't really like them, so they'll end up back on the 'Bay. The guy also chucked in a load of replacement weapons options to!

Will get these bad boys sprayed and off the ground after the weekend! Time to get my 'tread on!!

Squad 3 Progress, and a Bargain Vendetta!

Squad 3 continues to be painted bit by bit (blaming work for that again) The final 2 special weapons are in this squad, 2 melta gunners, with some questionable conversion! I have to admit, i rushed these 2 conversions and kinda shoe horned the weapons onto the model! I don't think its TOO obvious though.....ahem.

I managed to bag this built and undercoated Vendetta off eBay for the bargain price of 32quid! That includes the postage, so i was dead chuffed! This bad boy is next on the list once squad 3 is complete, 'cos quite frankly, I'm so bored with painting infantry at the mo! More on that once it gets going!

Squad 2 Complete

Well, its kinda complete, if you were allowed 6 special weapons in a squad!! I have another 11 Elysians either way! Though this is nearly all the special weapons done, just 2 more meltas to go (which I've done already today)

Troopers

Flamers

Plasma Gunners

Melta Gunners

I also took a group photo of the army so far - lookin good!

I apologise for the mainly uninteresting posts over the last few weeks. I'm really pushing to get the squads done as soon as possible, then i can concentrate purely on the cool stuff, like the Vendettas, Vultures and Sentinels!

On The Table....Quatermaster - SOS Colour Crisis!

Right, finally got back to the painting! I've been spending a lot of time tweaking the latest Krieg list so the painting has been somewhat neglected!

As you've seen, the Quartermaster has been included as a HQ choice in my list. I never really use my HQ choices for anything, and i only find them useful for taking my advisors. Mostly i take them because i have to! With the Quartermaster in there, he fills a otherwise boring role for me, with of course, the benefits that he confers. Once per turn, the Quartermaster can give one unit the Feel No Pain special rule to any unit within 2inches of him or any of his Servitors. Pretty handy, especially as you don't have to attach him to a dedicated squad. I would've taken 2, but i wanted to get those advisors in!

The units on the table and ready to go, but I'm really stuck on how to paint the dam servitors!! I didn't want to go for blue, 'cos lets face it, the Krieg are packin' a hell of a lot of blue! White was the second obvious choice, but i hate painting white, its a pain!! Next i went for purple, but it wasn't striking enough.

And that's where i am at the mo, so if any of you guys can help me with some inspiration it would be very much appreciated at this stage!!

Squad 2 Progress.....

Slow going this week im afraid. The demands of work are limiting my modeling time! Any-hoo, i've got all the basic colours on now, so just the washes and highlights to go!

On the Table.....

The second squad is underway. You may notice the stupid amount of special weapons in the squad! Due to the crappy nature of the Special Weapons pack for these guys (reason being; no arms and just weapons!) i had do do a bit of work on each guy that i wanted to arm with a special weapon. This is a massive pain in the ass, so i just got as many out of the way as i could! Just 2 Meltas do do, and then i only have poorly fitting lasguns to worry about!

I quite like the Heavy Flamers! The ones that came in the weapons packs were a bit insubstantial, so i just chopped off the ends and handles on a lasgun and stuck a flamer barrel on the end! It just bulked out the weapon a bit, and also made for a very easy conversion!! The fuel lines are some fine wire twisted together, easy

The green stuff should be dry by tonight, so I'll get the undercoat on them later!

Company Command Squad Complete

Its been a while since i posted on the Elysians last, due to a tournament i attended last weekend. Now that all the painting for that is done, i can concentrate on the Helljumpers 100%!

I went straight back into it and churned out these guys yesterday! Nice and tidy, i especially like the Medic! The plasma gunner will actually be added to the infantry squad and he'll be replaced with a regular trooper with a lasgun. The reason for this is that i bought 3 special weapons packs for the Elysians, and then realised that they were just the weapons without arms!! Unfortunately there are no other packs available, which means I'm gonna have to shoe-horn the special weapons onto 3 models in each squad! Hence the plasma gunner being replaced - at least that's one model i don't have to butcher in order to suitably arm him!! The second kneeling plasma gunner used to be a Grenade Launcher - his launcher was easy to replace, but i did have to cut off the butt of the plasma gun to make it fit! We'll say that its just a more compact design!! ahem....

For these guys i used the Army Painter Primer as the undercoat. You cant even tell the difference next to the original squad now that they're done, so I'm definitely happy with the result! The other 3 squads will also be undercoated in the Primer, saving me a large chunk of time! I also intended to use the Army Painter Dark Shade dip on these guts, but i figured that it wouldn't save me that much time, and might in fact make the process longer! Theres a little bit of touching up required after dipping the model, and realised that it would be quicker to shade the small khaki areas with ink instead!

Hope the pics are OK, and the next squad should be on the table tomorrow!

A Reasonable Tournament

The Bristol Vanguard Campaign Weekend is over! What a great weekend! The forces of the Imperial Guard came a not-to-shabby 4th place in the team stakes, while the forces of Chaos managed to ravage the planet before it was finally destroyed........huh, isn't war pointless!

Just before i attended the tournament, i saw that Forgeworld had released a revised army list for the Krieg. It is a vast improvement on the old list, updating it with all the new features found in the new Guard Codex. Krieg squads are cheaper, you can take more tanks, and the questionable Orders issue  (wither or not Krieg can use the Orders system) is cleared up right there in black and white! However, the new list does dispense with the special ammunition for the Heavy Mortar, much to the delight of Kreigs enemy's!!

With this in mind, i have written a new 1750pt list for the Korps. It hasnt changed to much, but i have dropped the Engineers squad and the Breaching Drill in favour of 2 Platoons of Guardsmen; 3 squads with Platoon Command Squads and special weapons. I also dropped the Demolisher and added another Medusa Siege Gun!! Cant get enough of those guys! The new list increased the range for these bad boys to a massive 120inches! Now there is no escape from the Big Guns! The list is below if you are interested!
